-    Vocabulary - 250 words

-    Key cultural characteristics recognized

 
50 - 60 4 Beginner

This group is together only after minimum 20 hours Beginner instruction

Novice Mid/High

-   Adequate communication in simple everyday situations

-   Wider vocabulary knowledge and familiar with more set phrases.

-    Vocab - 500 words

-   Beginning to write simple coherent sentences with correct syntax.

-   Able to refer to past and possibly future events

-   Key cultural characteristics incorporated into learning

Intermediate Low

-   Some communicative fluency developed with more natural and faster responses.

-   Recognizes some different tenses and conjugations and can produce them more readily.

-   Other structures (e.g. comparatives) familiarized.

-   Able to read simple but authentic texts and produce a greater range of written language

-   Confidence beginning to develop and learner able to cope adequately in a variety of situations

-   Cultural knowledge begins to assimilate into learning

-   Able to respond in a variety of ways and keep up with a conversation quite fluently.

-   Errors exist but do not overly impede communication

-   Writing becoming easily readable and accurate.

32 Upper Intermediate
Advanced

-   Able to recognize and produce accurately a range of tense and aspect, also a variety of structures such as conditionals and comparatives.

-   More subtle variations in expression and idiom are understood and can be produced.

-   Reading and writing quite competent in a range of uses.

-   Cultural awareness is part of all skills
